Making sure your bulls are healthy is an important part of ensuring the overall health of your herd. Here, you’ll find information on heath conditions specific to bulls, and the appropriate Zoetis product from our extensive range of cattle health products.

Leptospirosis

Bulls should be vaccinated early to prevent chronic kidney infection and the shedding of leptospires in the urine, followed by annual vaccinations.

Pestivirus

All new bulls should be earnotched to check that they are not persistently infected, and vaccinated with Pestigard®. Only Pestigard is registered in Australia to prevent pestivirus – there are no other registered vaccines.

• *Special Note: The time interval between 1st and 2nd dose should not be less than 4 weeks. However, the interval can be extended to 6 months. The second dose must be administered at least 2-4 weeks prior to joining.

Vibriosis

• Vibriosis is a major cause of infertility and abortion in cattle across Australia.
• Infected bulls can act as carriers for many years, and vibriosis infection causes no visible external signs in infected bulls.
• Vibriosis has no direct effect on a bull’s fertility, meaning an infected bull can spread the disease to any susceptible female.
• Start protection before conception with Vibrovax® – the only vaccine registered in Australia to prevent vibriosis in cattle.

Vaccinating bulls annually with Vibrovax prevents vibriosis from spreading:

• Significantly reduces the spread of vibriosis between infected females
• Increases pregnancy rates
• Prevents disrupted calving patterns
