In Australia, every horse has its birthday on the first day of August each year.. … All thoroughbreds celebrate their birthdays on the same date, January 1 in the Northern hemisphere and August 1 in the Southern hemisphere. After the first time a horse is alive on August 1st it is considered a yearling.

Many people in the Southern Hemisphere such as Australia use this date, 1st of August, to worm their horses.
